Marathon preparation

For those who want to enter in 2008 OR 2009 on basis of their qualifyiers, the time has come to start to think about the Marathon preparation. Urgent action is needed:

  • Get your membership of the NYRRC paid before the end of January ( and don't forget the BRRC).
  • For 2008: start training to run half marathons, in order to have a good basis (at least 20 miles per week) by the end of June.

In the same line, it would be good to ad some speed training to our routine. This would help those who want to qualify on basis of their speed. I would like to propose one to try to add some speed training to the Saturday run.

One of the following approaches could be possible:

  • those who want to do some speed training gather at 8:30 at the lake, corner, South-West corner of the Park, to do some 1-mile runs before the normal meeting at 9:00 at Prospect Park West and 15th street
  • Gather at the normal time and place. At the hill towards Grand Army, sprint to the top, jog back until everybody is together again (no child behind policy). It seems uphill sprint is less testing for tendons than flat racing. Repeat every loop, adding one at the bottom of the lake.
